A Journey That Started in Brazil
Our founder's first trip to the tanneries of southern Brazil was not what she expected. She had gone looking for rugs. What she found instead were families — multigenerational craftspeople who had spent their lives perfecting the art of selecting, tanning, and finishing hides with a care and precision that no factory could replicate.
The tanneries she visited were nothing like the industrial operations she had imagined. They were workshops. The air smelled of leather and cedar. Hides were inspected by hand, one by one, held up to the light to check for consistency of tone and texture. Blemishes were noted. Only the finest made the cut.
She came home with a handful of samples, put one down in her living room, and never looked back.
